JP Nagar 4th Phase vs JP Nagar Metro Station: They Are Not the Same Stop

JP Nagar 4th Phase metro station and JP Nagar metro station are two different stops — about 3 km apart, on two different lines, serving two different sides of a very large neighbourhood. One has been running on the Green Line for years. The other is on the new Pink Line along Bannerghatta Road and opens soon. If you search “JP Nagar metro” and head to the wrong one, you will end up on the wrong road entirely.

This guide covers where each station is, which lines they connect to, what is within walking distance of each, how to travel between them, and what the Pink Line changes for JP Nagar and Bannerghatta Road.

JP Nagar metro station (Green Line) — the one that runs today

The operational station is on Kanakapura Road, between Banashankari and Yelachenahalli on the Green Line. Its official name is Jayaprakash Nagar, but almost everyone calls it JP Nagar. If anyone has given you directions to “JP Nagar metro” before the Pink Line opened, this is the station they meant.

Where the Green Line takes you from JP Nagar

  • North towards Madavara: Banashankari, then Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road (2 stops) — the interchange for the Yellow Line to BTM Layout, Silk Board and Electronic City — and on through Jayanagar, Lalbagh and KR Market to Majestic (9 stops), the interchange for the Purple Line.
  • South towards Silk Institute: Yelachenahalli, Konanakunte Cross and the rest of Kanakapura Road.

JP Nagar gets more trains than most stations at rush hour. On weekdays, extra trains start one stop away at Yelachenahalli, so between roughly 7:20 and 10:50 in the morning and 5:00 and 8:20 in the evening there is a train towards Majestic about every 5 minutes.

JP Nagar 4th Phase metro station (Pink Line) — the new one

The new JP Nagar 4th Phase metro station stands on Bannerghatta Road near Vega City Mall, close to the Outer Ring Road junction. It serves JP Nagar’s eastern phases, Bilekahalli and the busy Bannerghatta Road stretch of shops and hospitals. On the Pink Line it sits between IIM Bangalore and Jayadeva Hospital.

Where the Pink Line takes you from JP Nagar 4th Phase

  • One stop north to Jayadeva Hospital — the interchange with the Yellow Line, and the tallest metro station on the network. Change here for BTM Layout, Silk Board (2 stops) and Electronic City (9 stops), or towards RV Road for the Green Line.
  • South along Bannerghatta Road — IIM Bangalore, Hulimavu and Kalena Agrahara, the southern end of the line.
  • Later, underground to the city centre — once the Pink Line’s underground section opens, the line continues from Tavarekere through Dairy Circle and Langford Town to MG Road (7 stops from JP Nagar 4th Phase, the Purple Line interchange), Shivajinagar and Nagawara. There is no confirmed date for this section yet.

What’s near JP Nagar 4th Phase station

  • Nexus Vega City Mall — about 250 m, with Lifestyle, Shoppers Stop and Max inside or alongside.
  • JP Nagar Mini Forest — about 260 m. A green walking spot right off Bannerghatta Road.

Is JP Nagar 4th Phase metro station open?

Not yet. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety cleared the elevated Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere section of the Pink Line on 28 October 2026. It opens once the Centre fixes an inauguration date — reports point to mid-November 2026, but no date is confirmed — and passenger service starts the day after the inauguration. The Pink Line’s timings and fares have not been published yet. Follow the Pink Line live status page for the confirmed opening date.

What the Pink Line changes for JP Nagar and Bannerghatta Road

Bannerghatta Road is one of Bengaluru’s most crowded roads, packed with malls, hospitals and offices — and until now, most of it had no metro within walking distance. The Pink Line’s elevated section changes that. Here is how far the nearest metro station is today, and once the Pink Line opens:

PlaceNearest open metro todayOnce the Pink Line opens
Nexus Vega City MallJayadeva Hospital, ~1.0 kmJP Nagar 4th Phase, ~250 m
Apollo Hospitals, Bannerghatta RoadJayadeva Hospital, ~2.3 kmIIM Bangalore station, ~130 m
Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta RoadJayadeva Hospital, ~2.4 kmIIM Bangalore station, ~150 m
Rainbow Children’s HospitalJayadeva Hospital, ~1.5 kmJP Nagar 4th Phase, ~0.7 km
JP Nagar Mini ForestJayadeva Hospital, ~0.6 kmJP Nagar 4th Phase, ~260 m

The bigger change is the connection. From JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital is one stop away, which puts Silk Board, BTM Layout and Electronic City on the Yellow Line within a single change. For JP Nagar residents on the Bannerghatta Road side, that means a metro option to the Electronic City IT corridor without first travelling west to Kanakapura Road. Jayadeva Hospital also becomes Bengaluru’s third working interchange, after Majestic and RV Road.

Which JP Nagar station do you need?

  • Kanakapura Road, Sarakki, or heading to Banashankari, Jayanagar or Majestic — JP Nagar (Jayaprakash Nagar), Green Line.
  • Vega City Mall, Bilekahalli, Bannerghatta Road shops and hospitals — JP Nagar 4th Phase metro station, Pink Line.
  • Apollo or Fortis on Bannerghatta Road — IIM Bangalore station on the Pink Line, not either JP Nagar station.
  • JP Nagar 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th Phase — it depends on your exact street. Type your address into the metro map and it shows the nearest open station and the walking time.

Getting between the two JP Nagar stations

The two stations are about 3 km apart in a straight line, and there is no direct metro link today. Once the Pink Line opens, the metro route from JP Nagar 4th Phase to JP Nagar (Green Line) is five stops with two changes:

  1. Pink Line, one stop to Jayadeva Hospital.
  2. Change to the Yellow Line towards RV Road: two stops via Ragigudda to Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road.
  3. Change to the Green Line towards Silk Institute: two stops via Banashankari to JP Nagar.

For a 3 km hop that is a lot of changing, so an auto or cab is usually quicker. The metro makes more sense when you are going further — Bannerghatta Road to Majestic or Electronic City, for example.

The future: an Orange Line to link both JP Nagar stations

Namma Metro’s Phase 3 plan includes an Orange Line along the western Outer Ring Road from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura, with JP Nagar 4th Phase as its southern terminus and an interchange planned at JP Nagar on the Green Line. When it is built, the two JP Nagar stations will finally be directly connected. The Union government approved Phase 3 in August 2024, but there is no construction timeline yet, so for the next few years they remain two separate stops.
