Chennai Metro Blue Line

The Blue Line (Corridor 1) is Chennai Metro's north–south backbone, running 32.1 km from Wimco Nagar Depot in north Chennai to Chennai International Airport in the south, across 26 stations. A long central stretch — from Tondiarpet through Chennai Central to Saidapet — runs underground; the rest is elevated. The line connects many of Chennai's busiest places: Chennai Central railway station (at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central metro), the High Court, Thousand Lights, Teynampet's office belt, Guindy's industrial estate, and the airport. It opened in stages between 2016 and 2022 — the Washermanpet–Airport core in 2016–2019 and the Wimco Nagar extension in 2021–22. Interchanges on the Blue Line You can change to the Green Line at Chennai Central and at Arignar Anna Alandur. From Alandur or Central you can reach Egmore, Anna Nagar, Koyambedu (CMBT) and Vadapalani — and at Vadapalani the Green Line meets the new Yellow Line towards Porur and Poonamallee. Timings and frequency Trains run from about 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM every day. Peak-hour frequency (8–11 AM, 5–8 PM) is every 6 minutes, off-peak 7 minutes, and a short-loop service between Washermanpet and Alandur runs every 3 minutes in weekday peaks.
