Deepavali shopping in Bengaluru by metro is the one way to reach the festival markets without a parking hunt. Deepavali week turns Bengaluru’s old shopping streets into rivers of light, flowers and people. It also turns the roads around them into car parks: Commercial Street, Chickpet, Malleshwaram 8th Cross and Jayanagar 4th Block all sit in zones where parking disappears by mid-morning in the week before the festival. The smartest way through all of it is the metro. This guide covers the dates Karnataka celebrates in 2026, eight Namma Metro stations that drop you straight into the best Deepavali shopping, the specific shops and markets worth the trip, and the first and last trains at each station so you can shop late without worrying about the ride home.
Everything here is checked against BMRCL’s published timetable and against the shops’ current locations. Walking times are from the station exit at an easy pace.
Deepavali 2026 dates in Karnataka
Karnataka celebrates Deepavali over several days, and in 2026 two of the big ones fall on the same Sunday. The dates below follow the Drik Panchang calendar for Bengaluru and the Karnataka government holiday list; family panchangas can differ by a day, so check yours for puja timings.
| Date | What it is | What people shop for |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, 6 November 2026 | Dhanteras (Dhanatrayodashi) | Gold and silver, new utensils, pooja vessels, Lakshmi coins |
| Saturday, 7 November 2026 | The last shopping day before the festival | Clothes, sweets, lamps, flowers; the busiest day on every shopping street |
| Sunday, 8 November 2026 | Naraka Chaturdashi and Lakshmi Puja (Amavasya), both on the same day this year | Oil bath at dawn, fresh flower garlands, diyas, crackers, last-minute sweets |
| Tuesday, 10 November 2026 | Balipadyami (Karnataka public holiday) | New clothes, gift hampers, visits to family |
What this means for shopping: the rush peaks on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November. If you are buying sarees or jewellery, do it the week before, between Monday 2 and Thursday 5 November, when the shops are stocked and the lanes are still walkable. Keep Saturday for flowers, sweets and lamps. Sunday 8 November is the festival itself; most street markets open early for flowers and close early.
Metro note for Sunday 8 November: Sunday services start at 7:00 AM from the terminals, not 5:00 AM. If you need to be at KR Market or Malleshwaram for flowers at dawn on Naraka Chaturdashi, the metro will not get you there before about 7:30. On the other days, trains start at 5:00 AM on the Purple and Green Lines.

Shopping streets stay open until 10 or 11 PM in Deepavali week, so the question is always the same: when is the last train? These are our estimates from BMRCL’s timetable using the same model as our station pages, so treat them as approximate and aim to be on the platform 10 minutes early.

Tips for Deepavali shopping in Bengaluru by metro
- Shop in the morning. Trains and streets are both quietest between 10 AM and 1 PM. The 5 to 9 PM window is the worst of both.
- Skip the token queue. Token counters at MG Road, Chickpete and Majestic run long queues in festival week. Use a Namma Metro smart card, the National Common Mobility Card, or a QR ticket from the Namma Metro app or WhatsApp.
- Sunday 8 November starts at 7 AM. Weekday and Saturday services start at 5 AM; Sunday at 7 AM from the terminals.
- Crackers do not travel by metro. Firecrackers and other flammables are not allowed through security. Shopping bags, flowers, sweets and lamps are fine; keep brass and glass packed so they clear the scanner without unpacking.
- Change at Majestic for the other line. Chickpet, KR Market, Sampige Road, Jayanagar, National College and Sandal Soap Factory are on the Green Line; MG Road, Indiranagar and Sir M. Visveshwaraya on the Purple. Majestic (Nadaprabhu Kempegowda) connects them.
- Plan the whole trip. The trip planner finds the nearest station to any shop and the fare, and the fare calculator shows what a Chickpet to Jayanagar hop costs.
A suggested Deepavali shopping route by metro

- 12:00, Sampige Road: flowers and sweets at 8th Cross, lunch at Hallimane.
- 3:00 PM, Majestic to MG Road: Commercial Street for clothes and jewellery, when the morning crowd has thinned.
- 6:30 PM, back on the Green Line to National College: Gandhi Bazaar at its liveliest, Subbamma Stores for snacks, Vidyarthi Bhavan if the queue is short.
